Datamatters main business is in providing facilities management and software integration for insurance brokers. The aim is to integrate appropriate technologies to provide a single coherent information technology platform for our clients and remove from them the worry of having the latest equipment or keep abreast of the latest computer industry developments and do what they do best, which is serve their clients.
Our applications are based on Windows servers running the D3 database software from Rocket Software and integrating Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, Flash and several other proprietary technologies to provide a seamless integration to web based applications, email, EDI, external databases, text messaging and our own specialised software developments for the insurance industry.
The Company has developed a wide range of diverse applications, many on behalf of well known institutions such as McDonnell Douglas for whom a system was developed for use in Magistrates Courts throughout the UK.
A Microfilm retrieval system was designed for Kodak Business Imaging Systems where the software was put to use in tandem with a mechanical system literally retrieving Microfilm records from a large historical database. Further sales and order processing applications were developed for companies in the textile industry such as Courtaulds and Baird Textiles which led to the development of a large system used by the mail order department of the UK's largest retailer of fishing tackle, Bennetts of Sheffield.
Another well known customer is Co-Op Travelcare for whom a full hardware solution was developed for use in the travel industry.
As The Company’s reputation spread further afield a number of related businesses turned to DataMatters for a solution to their multi-user system problems.
Two such customers required a system for their work in the field of credit car hire. Both 3 Arrows and Helphire had similar requirements. They both needed a system that was reliable and robust, that could be accessed from a number of sites throughout the country in real time and, most importantly, could cope with the simultaneous access of hundreds front end users. Using Pick software DataMatters were able to satisfy their requirements on an ongoing basis.
The Motor trade was also seen as a fertile environment for system development and, as a consequence, further well known industry names were added to an already impressive customer database including ADR Bodyshops, Brakes International.
Despite the wide range of successful applications described above it is in the field of General Insurance that DataMatters has excelled.
In 1987 a Motor Insurance Quotation System was developed for use in the high street Insurance Broking industry and, at around the same time, a training contract was entered into with Sanderson Computers which in turn led to an order for a similar insurance application from Hill House Hammond the multi branch operation owned by Aviva.
Alongside the development of systems for the traditional Insurance market DataMatters have led the industry in the development of interactive web enabled systems related to Insurance sales and were in fact the first ever Company to develop an interactive, multi insurer, quotation system for the internet.
During 1995 an agreement was reached with Coversure Insurance Services to provide a replacement system for the proprietary system in use at their network of franchised offices at locations throughout the country.
Such was the success of the project that the companies soon formed a strategic partnership and now offer a wide area network based solution to well over 300 users featuring Motor, Household, Travel and Commercial Insurance Quotation systems utilising the Polaris standard software, back office and accounting support, EDI and Point of Sale Documentation.
The system is fully integrated with a remote claims handling operation and also provides a unique access for insurer partners enabling an interactive relationship normally only available to the most sophisticated of telesales operations.
Other Insurance based customers include Broker Direct for whom a full cycle EDI system has been designed and implemented, and JBI Kitcare & Medicare the specialist suppliers of kit and healthcare insurance to the armed forces.
DataMatters offer a wide range of technological solutions from their premises in Market Place, Heywood, Lancashire including facilities management in a secure and environmentally controlled environment and they are particularly skilled in the design, implementation and management of large multi-user systems based on wide area networks.
Now a firmly established business in the town, The Company purchased and refurbished the adjacent office premises in 2000 to facilitate the controlled expansion of the business.
